Several California quarterbacks had outstanding sophomore seasons in 2025 and quickly climbed the recruiting rankings across the country. Many of these quarterbacks lit up the camp circuit this offseason and have picked up offers from the top college programs in the nation.

Josiah Boyd
High School: Vista del Lago (Moreno Valley)
Top Offers: Oregon, UCLA, Florida, Washington
Breakdown: Josiah Boyd averaged 238 yards per game last season with 19 touchdowns and just 3 interceptions for Vista del Lago. He also ran for 462 yards with a team-high 9 touchdowns. Boyd has natural arm talent and has shown he can be a good improvisor when the play breaks down. He can drive the ball to all levels of the field with accuracy and has been picking up major offers this spring.
Jamar Howard
High School: Clovis West
Top Offers: Oregon, Michigan, Utah, Ole Miss
Breakdown: Jamar Howard averaged 188 yards per game with 32 touchdowns and ran for 5 touchdowns for Clovis West as a sophomore. He has a big frame with a quick, smooth delivery and has the arm strength to make difficult throws look easy. Howard had one of the best performances for an underclassman at the Elite 11 Regional in Los Angeles this offseason.
Koa Malau’ulu
High School: St. John Bosco
Top Offers: Cal, Michigan, Oregon, SMU
Breakdown: Koa Malau’ulu completed 71 percent of his passes for 2,361 yards with 33 touchdowns and just 5 interceptions for Bosco last season. He has excellent timing with his receivers and is one of the more accurate quarterbacks in the class. Malau’ulu almost always makes the right decisions with the ball and has put on some muscle this offseason.
Tommy Devany
High School: Buchanan
Top Offers: Cal, Arizona State, Utah, Tulane
Breakdown: Tommy Devany threw for 201 yards per game with 18 touchdowns and ran for 3 touchdowns for Buchanan last season. He has the arm strength to fit the ball into tight windows and throw the ball down the field while throwing off-platform. Devany is a good athlete who is a baseball player as well.
Jaxson Carper
High School: St. Bonaventure
Top Offers: Iowa, Texas Tech, UCLA, Virginia Tech
Breakdown: Jaxson Carper threw for 1,642 yards with 14 touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown for St. Bonaventure last season. He earned MVP honors at the Under Armour Next Camp in Los Angeles back in April. Carper is fluid in all of his movements and can get the ball up the field with a quick release.
Ayden Edwards
High School: Tustin

Breakdown: Ayden Edwards completed 64 percent of his passes for 2079 yards with 21 touchdowns and just 5 interceptions for Tustin last season. His ball placement on corner routes is excellent and his arm strength continues to improve at every event he’s competed in this offseason.
Treyvone Towns Jr.
High School: Rancho Cucamonga

Breakdown: Towns transferred midseason to Rancho Cucamonga from Oaks Christian last season and didn’t get to see the field a ton. He can drive the ball down the field with little effort with natural arm strength and is a good athlete for his size. Towns has slimmed down a bit and the arm strength still looked impressive at the Battle at the Beach passing tournament.
Chase Curren
High School: Crespi
Top Offers: Miami, Cal, West Virginia, Stanford
Breakdown: Chase Curren completed 67 percent of his passes for 195 yards per game with 30 touchdowns and 7 rushing touchdowns for a Crespi team that went 10-0 in the regular season. He’s a big guy who hangs tough in the pocket and can drive the ball down the field while under pressure. Curren is a good athlete for his size and earned MVP honors at the Stanford camp in June.
Gaige Weddle
High School: Rancho Bernardo
Top Offers: Ohio State, Georgia, Oregon, Texas A&M
Breakdown: Gaige Weddle threw for 185 yards per game with 19 touchdowns and led his team with 679 rushing yards with 10 touchdowns. He projects as a safety at the college level but is an excellent quarterback as well. Weddle is the son of former NFL star Eric Weddle and can really hurt defenses with his athleticism. He has plus arm talent with accuracy and goes through his progressions quickly.
Star Thomas III
High School: Orange

Breakdown: Star Thomas III completed 67 percent of his passes for 303 yards per game with 27 touchdowns and 6 rushing touchdowns for Orange last season. He is one of the more accurate quarterbacks in the class and navigates pressure in the pocket well. Thomas is an under-recruited lefty who could be a national recruit by the team the season ends.
