Report: Raiders “Targeting” Super Bowl-Contending Coordinator Klint Kubiak as Head Coach

Seattle offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is reportedly set to become the new Las Vegas Raiders pit boss after the Super Bowl.

It’s deja vu all over again for the Las Vegas Raiders.

For the second year in a row, the Las Vegas Raiders are reportedly turning to the Seattle Seahawks’ sideline for assistance: per Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Raiders are “targeting” Seattle offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak to be the 25th head coach in franchise history.

If and when he’s hired, Kubiak will succeed former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, who lasted one year at the Sin City helm. The hire cannot be made official until Kubiak and the Seahawks face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX next Sunday in Santa Clara, California (6:30 p.m. ET, NBC).

Kubiak, who turns 39 next month, is set to wrap up his first (and apparently only) year in Seattle on a high note: the Seahawks offense ranked 3rd in scoring (its finest ranking since leading the league in 2005) and 8th in yardage last year en route to both the NFC West division and conference titles.

Under Kubiak’s watch, Seattle enjoyed a resurgent performance from new franchise quarterback Sam Darnold, as well as sterling rushing efforts from Zach Charbonnett and Kenneth Walker III, both of whom had at least 700 yards and and averaged 4 per carry. Additionally, receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba became the league’s top big-play target, leading the league with 1,793 receiving yards.

Prior to the Pacific Northwest, Kubiak entered the league as an offensive quality control coach with the Minnesota Vikings in 2013 after three seasons at Texas A&M. The son of former NFL boss Gary Kubiak, who previously guided the Denver Broncos to a win in Super Bowl 50 a decade ago, Kubiak previously served as an offensive coordinator in Minnesota (2021) and New Orleans (2024) before replacing the ousted Ryan Grubb in Seattle.

Kubiak will have his work cut out for him in Las Vegas: the Raiders finished 3-14 under Carroll’s watch and missed the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season. The Raiders placed at or near the bottom of almost every major offensive category, including points scored and yards gained. It continues a dour decade for Las Vegas, which is set to hire its fifth full-time head coach since 2020.

There may be a light at the end of Vegas’ tunnel: in addition to carrying nearly $90 million in 2026 cap space (second only to Tennessee), the Raiders have a pair of offensive building blocks in tight Brock Bowers and running back Ashton Jeanty. Las Vegas will also officially be on the clock after next Sunday, as they hold the top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh. The selection is widely expected to be used on newly-minted Heisman Trophy winner and national champion Fernando Mendoza of Indiana.

Kubiak’s expected hiring leaves the Arizona Cardinals with the lone remaining head coach opening in the NFL. The league had 10 openings at one point after the end of the regular season.
