Packers Claim Trevon Diggs Off Waivers From Cowboys

Trevon Diggs has a new home.

The former All-Pro cornerback was claimed off waivers by the Green Bay Packers on Wednesday. The move comes just a day after he was placed on waivers by the Dallas Cowboys. In Green Bay, Diggs will look to return to form after a rocky end to his time in Dallas.

The 27-year-old defensive back signed a five-year, $97 million extension with the Cowboys following the 2022 season. Since then, Diggs has played in just 21 games while dealing with various injury issues.

He played in just two games during the 2023 season before an ACL injury forced him to miss the remainder of that year. Diggs returned in 2024 to play in 11 games but again finished the season on injured reserve because of a knee issue.

The six-year NFL veteran made eight appearances for the Cowboys this season and collected 25 tackles. He has been held without an interception this season and has not registered a pass defended. A concussion kept the new Packers cornerback off the field for eight games this year in Dallas.

In 2021, Diggs was named an All-Pro following a season in which he led the league with 11 interceptions. Two of those picks were returned for touchdowns.

The Cowboys were likely to release Diggs after the season since he has no guaranteed money remaining on his contract.

Diggs posted to Instagram on Tuesday after being placed on waivers.

“I want to thank the Dallas Cowboys organization for the opportunity they gave me and for changing my life, both on and off the field. I’ll always be grateful for what my time here meant for me and my family.

“I want to thank all the coaches and staff who believed in me, pushed me, and helped me grow as a player and as a man. I’m thankful for the relationships and brotherhood I built in that locker room — those bonds will always mean a lot to me.”

Diggs Could Bring New Life To Green Bay Defense

The Packers have been in a free fall since losing star edge rusher Micah Parsons to a season-ending ACL injury in Week 15. Green Bay has secured a playoff spot already despite losing its last three games. Baltimore scored 41 points on the Packers on Saturday prompting the team to make a late splash in acquiring Diggs.

Parsons will miss the remainder of the season. But, he would get his opportunity to team up with Diggs on the same defense once again in 2026. The duo played together for four years in Dallas.

The Packers have allowed 60 points as a defense since Parsons went down with his injury late in the third quarter against the Broncos. Green Bay will owe Diggs the remainder of his contract for 2025 totaling $472,000.

Diggs could provide a boost to a struggling Packers defense heading into the playoffs. He was selected to the Pro Bowl twice in his career (2021, 2022). He was as opportunistic as any cornerback in the league during that span.

He had 14 interceptions, a fumble recovery and 35 passes defended in the two-year span.

The Packers are locked into the 7-seed in the NFC race for the third season in a row.

Green Bay visits the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday (1 p.m. EST) to close out the regular season but is expected to rest several key players. The Packers are still awaiting their opponent for the wild-card round. A matchup against either the Philadelphia Eagles or NFC North rival Chicago Bears is still in play.
