Most teams have played a game in the 2026 season and nearly every team in is action this week. Team FB7 highlights the top matchups to watch involving Southern California teams.
Week 0 is in the books and we have gotten a peak of how a lot of the top teams look with all their offseason adjustments. There are some very good high school football matchups across Southern California this week with some teams traveling out of state to play top competition.
Breaking Down the Top High School Matchups in Southern California for Week 1
Here are some of the top Southern California high school games in the area to keep an eye on this week.
Thursday
Los Alamitos vs. Huntington Beach
Huntington Beach made a statement and showed off its passing attack in a blowout win over Millikan last week. Ohio State commit Brady Edmunds threw for a school-record 446 yards with 6 touchdowns. Three of those touchdowns were to Arizona State commit Dylin Bruce who had 226 yards on 10 receptions. Serra transfer Skylar Robinson also had over 100 yards receiving for the Oilers.
Los Alamitos struggled offensively against a good Inglewood team last week. Sophomore Zachariah Correa got the start at quarterback and threw a touchdown pass to sophomore Caeson Miller. San Diego State commit Kamden Tillis was held to just 30 yards rushing. Leo Swietlikowski had two interceptions for the Griffins. Los Alamitos has won 11 consecutive games against Huntington Beach dating back to 2012.
Sierra Canyon vs. Chaminade-Madonna
Sierra Canyon’s defensive line was one of the most dominant units I’ve seen in high school football last week in a 42-21 win over JSerra. Ohio State commit Marcus Fakatou had 2 sacks and Stephan Harrison had a pick-six. UCLA commit Myles Baker ran for a touchdown, returned a kick for a touchdown and tipped a ball that led to a pick-six. Demarco Hernandez threw for 150 yards with a touchdown, but the Trailblazers QB had an interception.
Chaminade-Madonna of Florida gave St. John Bosco a close game the last time it played a California school. Ah’Mari Stevens is the Lions’ top receiver and is committed to LSU. Brady Quinn is a junior quarterback with offers from Clemson, Indiana and Miami among others and Peter Pierre (offers from Alabama, Notre Dame, Texas) leads the defense.
Friday
Oaks Christian vs. Rancho Cucamonga
Oaks Christian had just 48 yards of total offense in a shutout loss to Chaminade in its season-opener. Niko Bladow started at quarterback and Chase Evans was Oaks Christian’s leading receiver. Joshua Tyler led the Lions in tackles with 15 and USC commit Alifeleti Tuihalamaka had 10 tackles with a sack.
Rancho Cucamonga scored 28 unanswered points in a win over Murrieta Valley last week. Treyvone Towns Jr. threw for 230 yards with 3 touchdowns in his first start for the Cougars. Devin Leslie led Rancho Cucamonga in receiving and Kestin McGee had five catches for 60 yards with a touchdown.
Yorba Linda vs. Long Beach Poly
Yorba Linda had a very impressive win over a talented Laguna Beach team in its season-opener. Noah Trujillo threw for 230 yards on just 9 completions with 2 touchdowns. Vince Aguilar caught 2 passes for 114 yards with 2 touchdowns and Aiden Gutierrez ran for 2 touchdowns. Isaiah Trujillo is one of the top two-way players in the area and ran for a touchdown for the Mustangs.
Long Beach Poly cruised to a 24-7 win against Downey. Jeron Johnson II ran for 83 yards and Jayden Coley caught 10 passes for 92 yards and returned a kick for a touchdown. Freshman Elijah Day had two sacks and Toa Cagnolatti had an interception for the Jackrabbits.
Chaminade vs. Valencia
Chaminade had a dominant defensive performance against Oaks Christian last week in an 18-0 win. Hudson Manning had 4 sacks and 7 hurries to lead the defense. Marquis Jones and Cameron Backman combined for 171 rushing yards for the Eagles.
Sophomore quarterback Evan McCalister completed 20 of 25 passes for 321 yards with 4 touchdowns for Valencia in its win over Simi Valley. Michael Wilder had 3 touchdown receptions and Nico Funez ran for 86 yards with 2 touchdowns. Valencia won this game last year but graduated its star quarterback and running back from that team.
Orange Lutheran vs. Cathedral Catholic
Orange Lutheran lost on a late field goal to Central of Miami last week. The Lancers struggled offensively and their two quarterbacks: Reagan Toki and Ezrah Brown combined for 130 yards passing. Chris Flores Jr. caught 7 passes for 79 yards with a touchdown.
Cathedral Catholic won the Open Division championship in San Diego last season and is one of the top teams in the area again this season. USC commit Honor Fa’alave-Johnson is the top player in the state according to multiple recruiting sites. Quarterback is a mystery for the Dons but JSerra transfer Koa Smith-Mayall and sophomore Gavin Rossi both played at the Battle at the Beach tournament.
Santa Margarita vs. Centennial
This is a rematch of the Division 1 championship game last season and Santa Margarita was dominant in that game. Centennial is a much different team this year with two key new pieces in quarterback Jaden Jefferson and receiver Quentin Hale. Jefferson threw for 296 yards with 2 touchdowns and ran for 2 touchdowns against Servite last week. Hale caught 8 passes for 155 yards with 2 touchdowns. Dean Gibson led the defense with 14 tackles and Matt Salmeron had 10 tackles with 2 sacks.
Santa Margarita shut out Jones of Orlando last week. Freshman linebacker Aydan Steen had a breakout game with 10 tackles and 3 sacks. Ca’ron Williams and Jayden Jack each had interceptions and Kingston Jimmerson was in the backfield consistently. Fletch Palmer made his first varsity start and threw for 242 yards with 2 touchdowns. Freshman Kiyan Callis had 105 yards receiving with a touchdown and Grant Van Raaphorst had a touchdown catch.
