HS Football: Top Week 0 Performances in Southern California

There were plenty of standout performances in Week 0 across Southern California and TeamFB7 highlights the best of those high school showings.

Football is back and so are talented players putting up massive numbers on the gridiron. Players from across the LA City Section, San Diego Section and Southern Section had strong performances for their teams to kick off the season.

Taking a Look Across Southern California at the Top Performances from Week 0

Here are the top high school football performances in Southern California from week 0.

Passing

Brady Edmonds, Huntington Beach

Brady Edmonds completed 78 percent of his passes for a school-record 446 yards with 6 touchdowns in Huntington Beach’s win over Millikan on Thursday.

Chris Fields, Carson

Georgetown commit Chris Fields threw for 161 yards with a touchdown and ran for 109 yards with 3 touchdowns in Carson’s 35-31 win over Lincoln of San Diego.

Jaden Jefferson, Centennial

Jaden Jefferson kicked off the season with an incredible performance in his debut for Centennial in a win over Servite. The Hawaii commit completed 79 percent of his passes for 296 yards with 2 touchdowns and ran for 92 yards with 2 touchdowns.

Trent Lux, Great Oak

Trent Lux was incredibly efficient completing 11 of 13 passes for 262 yards with 5 touchdowns in Great Oak’s 42-21 win over Vista Murrieta. He also ran for 52 yards.

Hezekiah Manuel, Hoover (San Diego)

Hezekiah Manuel completed 78 percent of his passes for 472 yards with 6 touchdowns in Hoover’s win over Southwest San Diego. He also ran for 64 yards with two touchdowns.

Julian Medina, Norco

Julian Medina completed 20 of 23 passes for 408 yards with 5 touchdowns in Norco’s dominant win over Roosevelt of Eastvale.

DJ Mitchell, La Habra

Cal Poly commit DJ Mitchell threw for 219 yards with 5 touchdowns and ran for a team-high 123 yards on just six carries in a blowout win over Upland.

Star Thomas III, Orange

Star Thomas III completed 17 of 21 passes for 439 yards with 4 touchdowns in Orange’s 49-14 win over North Torrance. He also ran for 122 yards with 2 touchdowns and has a big matchup against Laguna Beach this week.

Rushing

Denzel Carter, La Salle

Denzel Carter ran for a career-high 254 yards with 4 touchdowns and added 2 receiving touchdowns in La Salle’s 60-52 win over Cantwell-Sacred Heart.

Raphael Graham, Cathedral

Raphael Graham ran for 239 yards on 21 carries with 4 touchdowns and a receiving touchdown for Cathedral in a 52-49 win over Centennial of Nevada.

Gatsbee Gumban, Nogales

Gatsbee Gumban ran for 184 yards on 8 carries with 3 touchdowns for Nogales in a 34-23 win over California High. It was his first game for Nogales after transferring from Covina and Gumban made a big impression.

Ceasar Reyes, Garfield

Ceasar Reyes ran for 277 yards with 5 touchdowns in Garfield’s win over Montebello. He is an intriguing lower level college prospect with offers from McPherson College and Benedictine College.

Receiving

Dylin Bruce, Huntington Beach

Dylin Bruce caught 10 passes for a career-high 226 yards with 3 touchdowns in Huntington Beach’s 42-14 win over Millikan. Huntington Beach graduated its school-record holder in receiving last season and Bruce seems to have stepped right into that role.

Blake Rogers, La Habra

Southern Utah commit Blake Rogers caught seven passes for 144 yards with 3 touchdowns in La Habra’s 55-13 win over Upland.

Blake Wong, Norco

BYU commit Blake Wong caught 6 passes for 124 yards with 3 touchdowns for Norco in its 55-14 win over Roosevelt of Eastvale.

Defense

Logan Aguilar, Esperanza

Logan Aguilar had three interceptions for Esperanza in a 24-0 shutout win over Shadow Hills.

Marcus Fakatou, Sierra Canyon

Ohio State commit Marcus Fakatou was making his debut for Sierra Canyon after transferring from Orange Lutheran and was causing problems in the backfield. Fakatou had two sacks in a win over JSerra and the quarterback lost 28 yards on those plays.

Jaylan Huang, Diamond Bar

Jaylan Huang had a state-high 5 sacks and had 10 tackles in Diamond Bar’s win over Grand Terrace. His 5 sacks are the fourth most in the nation early in the season.

Hudson Manning, Chaminade

Hudson Manning had 4 sacks and 7 hurries for Chaminade in its shutout win over Oaks Christian and helped the Eagles hold Oaks Christian to just 48 yards of total offense.

Jaxson Rex, San Clemente

BYU commit Jaxson Rex returned an interception 97 yards for a touchdown and helped lead San Clemente to a 17-0 shutout win over a talented Tustin team. Rex was recently named one of TeamFB7’s two-way players to watch this season.
