November 13, 2025 – Orange Lutheran (3–8) stunned recently nationally ranked No. 1 St. John Bosco (9–2) with a dramatic 20–19 victory in the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs. How a team with only 2 wins and was second to last in their division due to forfeits was able to get into the playoffs will forever be a mystery.
The rain tends to even the playing field in sports as the usual high powered offense of St John Bosco was tamed. Bosco beat OLU just a month prior by a score of 48-0. A 67 yard touchdown pass from qb Reagan Toki to Nico Bland in the third quarter gave the Lancers a 14-13 lead.
On the Bosco’s very next drive qb Koa Malau’ulu was picked off by King Rich Johnson whom took it to the house. The Lancers led 20-13 in the 4th quarter. With their backs to the wall Bosco drove down the field, led by Malau’ulu, who found Madden Williams for a 12 yard touch down with under a minute left. Unfortunately the PAT sailed wide for the second time of the night and just like that Bosco’s epic season ended.
